The Palestinian village of Khirbet Susya has existed in the South Hebron Hills since the 19th century. In 1986, the Palestinian residents of Susya were expelled from their village and their homes demolished. Since then, the Israeli authorities have been working to force the Palestinian residents out of the area through land appropriation and demolition of homes and village structures. The Nawaja family is presently awaiting the demolition of their homes and has nowhere else to go.
